Miroslav Polák

Miroslav Polák is a Slovak visual artist, painter, and sculptor whose work emerges from a deep desire to explore the relationship between humanity, nature, and the universe. Born in 1954 in the village of Vlkas in southern Slovakia, he continues to draw inspiration from the landscape and atmosphere of his birthplace.

He studied under painter Ľudovít Jelaňák and sculptor Marián Čiric. Over the decades, he has developed a distinctive artistic language characterized by symbolism, contemplative imagery, and a search for meanings that extend beyond visible reality.

His work combines figurative elements, sacred symbolism, landscapes, and cosmic imagery. A unique aspect of his practice is the incorporation of photographs captured by space telescopes. Into images of distant galaxies, nebulae, and celestial structures, he weaves stories, symbols, and imaginative narratives, creating a dialogue between art and science — between what can be measured and observed and what can only be experienced through emotion and imagination.

His series Stars of Silence, inspired by imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope, presents the universe as a space of silence, colour, infinity, and human contemplation. Rather than viewing the cosmos solely as an astronomical phenomenon, Polák approaches it as a place for reflecting on existence, time, and humanity's place within the vastness of space.

His work has been exhibited throughout Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and internationally, and is represented in both private and public collections. Alongside his artistic career, he has devoted many years to teaching, influencing generations of students working in art, design, and architecture.

He currently lives and works between Nitra and his native village of Vlkas in Slovakia.

Studoval u akademického malíře Ľudovíta Jelaňáka a akademického sochaře Mariána Čirice. Během desetiletí si vybudoval osobitý výtvarný jazyk charakteristický meditativním přístupem, symbolikou a snahou zachytit nejen viditelnou realitu, ale i její hlubší významy.

Do fotografií vzdálených galaxií, mlhovin a hvězdných systémů vnáší vlastní příběhy, symboly a imaginativní vrstvy.
